Study Shows Henlow/Stondon is the Safest Post Town in the East of England

Stondon and Henlow (as part of the SG16 postcode) is the safest post town in the East of England, according to a recent study by consumer-research group ValuePenguin. Those living in the SG16 postcode district (which includes Lower Stondon, Upper Stondon, Henlow and Henlow Camp) can take comfort knowing they’re less likely to be the victim of a crime, according to data collected between March 2016 and March 2017.

Under the protection of the Bedfordshire Police, the Henlow post town came in 1st with the lowest overall crime score out of the 122 East of England post towns included in the study, which considered post towns with 3,000 residents or more. Henlow’s overall crime score of 798 is 61% lower than the East of England’s average crime score of 2,043.

The overall crime score is composed of a violent crime factor and a property crime factor. Henlow ranked a solid 1st in violent crime safety with an effective rate of 624 violent crimes per 100k residents, boasting a score 66% lower than the East of England average. In terms of property crime, Henlow came in 7th out of the 122 post towns included in the study, with a property crime rate equivalent to 1,494 incidents per 100k residents.

In the full study you can see how other post towns in the East of England rank and learn about the methodology used to determine the crime scores.

The safest places in the East of England behind Henlow are Knebworth, Melton Constable, Welwyn and Hockley – all small to medium post towns. Among large post towns with populations greater than 50,000, Ely ranked 1st as the safest place with a crime score of 1,368, followed by Hitchin, Bishop’s Stortford, Leighton Buzzard and Huntingdon.
