A recent review of the general waste bins at Morello Way and Woodpecker Mead children’s play parks, carried out in the week before the Christmas break, identified a significant amount of dog waste being disposed of in these bins. The volume was such that the bins became full and overflowed, with bagged waste spilling onto the ground.
This situation presents an obvious health and hygiene risk, regardless of whether the play areas are being actively used by children at the time. Unfortunately, this issue is not confined to play areas alone, and we have also seen general waste bins across Stondon being used for dog waste.
Stondon Parish Council has applied to Central Bedfordshire Council for the installation of dedicated dog waste bins at both play parks. We have received their standard response that, as the roads have not yet been adopted, responsibility currently rests with the developer.
The Parish Council has now written to our elected Ward Councillors to seek their support in getting two new dog waste bins installed at Morello Way and Woodpecker Mead. If residents would also like to support the Council’s request for dedicated dog waste bins at these locations, please email the Clerk at clerk@stondon-pc.gov.uk.
In the meantime, we kindly ask all dog owners across Stondon to use dedicated dog waste bins only, or to take dog waste home and dispose of it in their own household bins.
