I’ve been in contact with CBC Streetworks, Ward Councillors and Anglian Water to get to the bottom of the issue here.
Anglian Water confirms there was a burst pipe, most likely due to the weather as they had a number of pipes in this area burst over the last couple of days. It’s important to note here that this was not a pre-scheduled job – it was an emergency.
The repair work to the pipe were completed first thing this morning – but there is a rather big hole in the ground where they’ve had to access the pipe – and a pile of soil and stone from the dog has been placed in the middle of the road. There may be nobody there, but the work has been done to repair the pipe.
As a result of the burst pipe, water levels will likely have fluctuated significantly and Anglian Water have put in a temporary standpipe to flush the water to ensure there is no sediment or iron particles in the water. This is, apparently, standard procedure and part of their health and safety protocols for safe water. So the “gushing water” near the site is the flushed water. Tests will be carried out on the water quality and the standpipe will be removed when the tests show the water is safe to drink.
The road will need to be filled in and the tar replaced before the road can be opened. They couldn’t tell me when the likelihood of that would be, but she assured me they are aware of the fact that Station Road is closed and appreciates the frustration this has caused residents today.
