Footpath 4 from Hillside Road to Bedford Road: Now Clear and Reopened
We are pleased to announce that Footpath 4, running from Hillside Road to Bedford Road, has been thoroughly cleared and is now fully accessible. This includes The Spinney, where the hedgerow has been trimmed and ground foliage removed. The clearance was a collaborative effort led by the Stondon Parish Council, its Footpaths Officer, volunteers from the Bedfordshire Ramblers RIPPLE Team (Restoring and Improving Public Paths for Leisure and Enjoyment), and CBC Footpaths Officer Michelle Flynn. Their combined work has greatly improved the condition of this footpath.
The Parish Council and CBC have discussed with the landowner the regular maintenance of the remaining section of the footpath, extending to the new Bloor Homes development. Regular upkeep is typically carried out in the autumn.
To further support the maintenance of Stondon’s footpaths, the Parish Council has applied for funding through the CBC Ward Councillor Grant Scheme to acquire a hedge cutter and brush cutter. These tools will enable us to carry out essential maintenance, particularly given the budgetary constraints faced by the CBC Footpaths Team.

Bridleway 1 (BW1) – Off Mayfield Crescent
The Clerk and CBC Footpaths Officer have assessed Bridleway 1 (BW1), which runs off Mayfield Crescent. A short section of this bridleway requires significant work, particularly at the entrance. CBC has agreed to address this issue with their contractors.
Bloor Homes’ New Path and Connection to Footpath 4 and 5
Bloor Homes has constructed a new path connecting Footpath 4 to Bedford Road along Footpath 5. The Parish Council and CBC Footpaths Officer have reviewed the finish of this path.
Following discussions with Bloor Homes, they have agreed that improvements are necessary. Bloor Homes plans to begin these upgrades in October, providing a much-improved surface.
