Pollards Way Improvements

Improvements at Pollards Way open space

Stondon Parish Council have been looking to find ways of improving the open space at Pollards Way, including the drainage issues. Mulberry Homes approached us as part of the planning process on how they could work with the Parish Council to deliver the improvements during their development.  As a result of these discussions Mulberry have agreed to carry out works for the Parish Council (at no cost) to improve the Park, which include:

  • Levelling and creating a kick-about area the size of a 5-a-side football pitch

Plan showing agreed improvements proposed for Pollards Way
  • Extensive improvements to drainage in areas that are at times boggy and unsuitable for use
  • Providing a connecting path from our site into Pollards Way Park to join up with a new path round the area
  • Fill an open ditch, improve the look hedgerows and vegetation by thinning them.
  • Creation of an open vista from Pollards Way across the Brunswick Gate Gardens enhancing the existing space.
  • Improved habitat will provide hedgehog hotels, bird boxes and seating areas for all to enjoy the open space.

Brunswick Gate Gardens is the new parkland complementing the open aspect of their development adjacent to Pollards Way Open space. Working with Mulberry we have asked them to deliver an extensive footpath around Pollards Way open space. This will not be tarmac but good for gentle exercise and give a defined path round the open space.

The impact of the works may last a few weeks, possibly done is sections to minimise disruption. The works detailed above will include the laying of new drainage (including a sewage connection) and footpath connections between Pollards Way and the Brundswick Gate development. Mulberry Homes have assured us that will strive to keep this to a minimum and re-instate any areas disturbed.

They have suggested they would like the connection to the drainage (sewage) works to take place before the end of 2019 but we have no firm dates yet. Commencement dates depend on our discussions with them with respect to legal agreements and commitments proposed.

We believe this will be a huge improvement for residents of both Pollards Way and new residents in Brunswick Park.
